Groundwater is a vital source of drinking water, irrigation, and industrial supply in Ghana. The Water Resources Commission (WRC) regulates the abstraction and use of groundwater to ensure its sustainable development and prevent overexploitation or contamination.
Our responsibilities include:
Issuing Water Use Permits for boreholes, wells, and other groundwater extraction systems.
Monitoring groundwater levels and recharge rates across various basins.
Enforcing standards for borehole drilling, spacing, and water quality.
Promoting sustainable groundwater practices, especially in drought-prone and rural areas.
Through effective regulation, we ensure that groundwater remains a reliable, safe, and equitable resource for current and future generations.
