“To regulate and manage the sustainable utilization of water resources and to coordinate related policies by combining our core competencies and hard work through effective participation, monitoring, and awareness creation for the socio-economic development of Ghana.”
The mission of the Water Resources Commission (WRC) outlines our central purpose ensuring Ghana’s water resources are used wisely, fairly, and sustainably.
Regulation & Management
We oversee how water is used across the country, ensuring that it is protected from overuse and pollution, while promoting efficient and equitable access for all users.
Policy Coordination
The WRC brings together stakeholders, institutions, and sectors to align policies that affect water resources, creating a unified national approach to water governance.
Core Competencies & Hard Work
We rely on our skilled professionals, technical knowledge, and strong institutional capacity to deliver impactful and effective water resource management.
Participation, Monitoring & Awareness
Through inclusive engagement, regular monitoring, and public education, we encourage all Ghanaians to take part in managing and protecting our water.
Socio-Economic Development
Water is vital for agriculture, industry, health, and livelihoods. By managing it sustainably, we support Ghana’s broader development goals and improve quality of life.

Save the Children believes every child deserves a future. In the U.S. and around the world, we give children a healthy start in life the Chief may also be involved in fire prevention.
The WRC was established by the Water Resources Commission Act, 1996 (Act 522), making it the legal authority responsible for regulating and managing water resources in Ghana.
Under the Act, all water resources in Ghana are vested in the President on behalf of the people, and cannot be used without authorization from the WRC ensuring fair and sustainable access.
The WRC leads the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) approach, which ensures that water use across agriculture, industry, homes, and the environment is balanced, coordinated, and sustainable.
