The Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission (WRC), Prof. Alidu Seidu, has commenced a tour of the Commission’s basin offices to enhance his familiarization with the basins under his oversight. The tour is aimed at gaining firsthand insight into the conditions at the various basin offices and strengthening engagement with both staff and stakeholders.
As part of this initiative, Prof. Seidu visited the Lower Volta Basin office, where he interacted with staff to discuss the Basin’s core responsibilities, notable achievements, existing challenges, and future strategic plans. He commended the staff for their dedication and hard work, especially considering the vast catchment area under their jurisdiction.
During the visit, Prof. Seidu also paid courtesy calls on two key local government leaders, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of South Tongu District, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, and the Coordinating Director of the Ada East District Assembly, Mr. Jerryson Ayih. These visits aimed to strengthen collaborative ties between the WRC and the respective district assemblies.
Hon. Dzeklo welcomed the team warmly and acknowledged that water-related issues persist in the municipality. She emphasized the importance of collaboration between institutions and the local assembly to educate the community on harmful human activities affecting water resources. She also expressed the municipality’s readiness to support the WRC’s proposals, recommendations, and sustainable solutions.
In Ada, Prof. Seidu and his team discussed the acquisition of office space with Mr. Ayih, who expressed his district’s willingness to collaborate with the WRC and other institutions to promote community development. Mr. Ayih encouraged the Commission to begin groundwork as a demonstration of its commitment, further solidifying the partnership.
Prof. Seidu thanked the Coordinating Director for recognizing the importance of establishing a WRC presence in Ada, noting that it would significantly enhance strategic cooperation between the Assembly and the Commission.
The Executive Secretary reiterated his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by basin offices and ensuring effective leadership and support throughout all WRC operational areas.
