WATER RESOURCES COMMISSION

Basins in Ghana

Managing Ghana’s water resources through integrated basin-level
planning, coordination, monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.

Managing Water Resources at the Basin Level

Ghana’s water resources are managed using a basin-based approach
that recognizes the interconnected nature of rivers, streams,
wetlands, groundwater, communities, and ecosystems.

The Water Resources Commission has established Basin Offices to
bring water resources management closer to communities and
stakeholders within the respective basins.

These offices support the implementation of the Commission’s
mandate through coordination, monitoring, stakeholder engagement,
education, and the promotion of sustainable use and protection
of water resources.
