Water Use Regulation

The Water Resources Commission (WRC) is mandated to regulate the use of water resources in Ghana to ensure equitable access, efficient use, and environmental sustainability. Through the Water Use Regulation framework, we manage how individuals, institutions, and industries access and utilize both surface and groundwater resources.

Our core responsibilities include:

• Issuing Water Use Permits for domestic, agricultural, commercial, and industrial purposes.

• Monitoring and enforcing permit conditions to prevent misuse or pollution of water bodies.

• Regulating borehole drilling and groundwater abstraction to protect underground reserves.

• Ensuring water allocation is fair, sustainable, and aligned with national priorities.

Water is a shared resource, and its responsible use is critical to national development. Our regulatory role safeguards the quality, quantity, and long-term availability of water for all.
