The Water Resources Commission (WRC) plays a strategic role in the coordination and management of transboundary water resources to ensure peace, sustainability, and mutual benefit among riparian countries. As a key national focal point, the WRC engages with regional and international bodies such as the Volta Basin Authority (VBA) and other shared water frameworks to promote integrated water resource governance across borders.
Our work includes negotiating cooperative agreements, facilitating data and information exchange, supporting joint monitoring and research, and participating in cross-border projects that improve water security and ecosystem health. Through collaboration, we help prevent conflicts, foster diplomatic water cooperation, and ensure that the socio-economic and environmental needs of all stakeholders are met sustainably.
By strengthening regional partnerships and aligning national priorities with international best practices, the WRC reinforces Ghana’s commitment to shared water stewardship and long-term transboundary water resilience.
