Water Use

Water use refers to the lawful abstraction and utilization of Ghana’s water resources for various purposes including domestic, agricultural, commercial, industrial, and institutional needs. Under the Water Use Regulation mandate, the Water Resources Commission (WRC) ensures that all water users obtain the appropriate Water Use Permits before accessing surface or groundwater.

Our work in this area focuses on:

  • Promoting efficient and equitable water allocation.

  • Encouraging sustainable use to preserve water resources for future generations.

  • Monitoring compliance with permit conditions to reduce overuse and pollution.

  • Supporting stakeholders with guidance on how to apply for and renew water use permits.

Whether you’re an individual, a community group, or a large-scale developer, proper authorization is essential to legally access and use water in Ghana. This process protects the integrity of our water systems and ensures that water remains available and clean for everyone.
